Marks and Spencer reports a fall in sales

Marks and Spencer has reported a drop in sales, due in large part to the continued weak performance of its clothing department.

Like-for-like sales, which strip out the impact of new stores, fell by 2.8% in the UK between April and June, with total group sales falling 0.7%.

Like-for-like sales at the UK food business rose 0.6%.

The company also announced the departure of the head of general merchandise, Kate Bostock.
