South Korea's growth picks up pace in the first quarter

Consumer in Seoul's shopping district

South Korea's economic growth picked up speed in the first three months of the year boosted by strong industrial output and government spending.

Gross domestic product expanded by 0.9% in the January to March quarter, compared with 0.3% growth in the previous three months.

Compared with the same period the previous year, the economy grew 2.8%.

South Korea is Asia's fourth-largest economy.
