Inflation in the UK slowed last month owing to a fall in transport prices, taking the Consumer Prices Index measure to 3%.

The CPI rate - measuring the rising cost of living in the UK - fell from 3.5% in March, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

The Retail Prices Index (RPI) fell from 3.6% in March to 3.5% in April.

The Bank of England recently said inflation would remain above the 2% target "for the next year or so".
